Forward 466

Our Future, Our Health, Our District

USD 466 District Office Building

Dear 466 Stakeholders,

Thank you for a great first quarter to our school year! Our district continues to experience the remarkable achievements our students make, and we are so proud of their work. None of this progress would be possible without the unwavering dedication of our teachers, staff, families, and community partners who uplift our schools every day. Thank you for the role you play in helping Scott City be such a great place to raise a family!

In this issue of Forward 466, you’ll find updates on enrollment, website information, our instructional focus, and our technology surplus.

Thank you for your support of our district! Go Beavers!

Enrollment Decline

District enrollment has been declining over the past few years. We are down about 150 students since the 2020-21 school year. This trend is common across our state. The Kansas State Department of Education reports that public school enrollment is down 1.9% statewide, and the decline is noticed in private schools (1.7% decline) and state schools (2.5% decline), as well. USD 466 will keep an eye on enrollment numbers, as well as progress with a new finance formula for schools, in making decisions to move forward with this trend.

Website Information

Be sure to check our website periodically for updated information and calendar events. A couple of informative pages on our website are:
  1. The District Dashboard - This page has a variety of graphs show enrollment trends, assessment scores, and even mill levy trends.
  2. Inclement Weather Procedures - This page tells you how what to expect when we have closures or delays during inclement weather.

Quality Instruction Focus

Each year, every school district in Kansas is required to target an area for school improvement. The process is called the Kansas Education System of Accreditation (KESA) can is found here on the Kansas State Department of Education's website. It requires creating and action plan, implementation of the plan, and state reporting.  This year USD 466 has selected the target of Quality Instruction, with a focus upon the most impactful instructional strategies based on research, as well as opportunities for teachers to collaborate and grow together.

Technology Surplus

Each year we rotate out devices (iPads and Chromebooks) for newer devices for students and staff. The devices we surplus, although used, still have value and we like to offer them for a price to the community. Many times people purchase them for Christmas gifts or home use. Look for this sale again during the week of Thanksgiving. Details will be posted on district and building Facebook pages.
